  1. Great product and works really well. However, if you can get it cheaper I say go for it. This price is just too high.

I am using this on a Canon HF10. This is an OK product. It works fine, but is not as good as it could be. The fit on the camera is OK, but requires the use of the included washers to get the spacing just right. There are not stops on the top of the shoe, and no friction springs (like you’d find on the camera shoe). That means any accessory you install will fall right out, unless the accessory has a clamping nut. And if the nut gets loose? Yep – falls out. Put a piece of gaffer tape around it and you’ll be ok. I’m sure I’ll figure out how to add a stop and a friction lock, but I do wish this product had those features.

Should you buy it? Well, it does work. But before you spend your money, look around and see if there is a better one. If this cost $9, then I would say it was good. But it costs enough that the shoe should be better. Heck, Flash Zebra sells a nice shoe for $4 that fits a 1/4″-20 stud. I might look to see if I can fit that item on here. So my advice is look around first for a better one, and if you don’t find one, settle for this.

Adorama should know better than to allow this sub-standard product to go out with their name on it. The $36 price is a bit of a rip off, considering a better shoe costs just $4. But right now they have the only game in town. Hopefully not for long.

Pretty simple really, it’ll hold a component in the mini advanced shoe slot. I think it may be a little overpriced for what it offers. But, it gets the job done, can’t complain (holds my wireless mic receiver).

  4. It’s a bit annoying that I have to buy an adapter to use standard accessories with my HFS100, but I guess that’s a side effect of the ever shrinking form factor of these cameras.

The adapter is really just a couple of pieces of metal and plastic to tighten itself to the mini shoe. You turn the adapter on the screw thread to tighten it, but usually when tightened, it’s not aligned straight front and back with the camcorder. A tad annoying. For the price I would have liked something a little bit more thought out, but there aren’t other options from what I could see.

Does its job and is a strong enough build for me.
